Dominion Heritage Schoolhouse Museum

The museum consists of an 1888 schoolhouse, restored to the period, containing desks, writing materials, maps, school bell and the dreaded strap. The collection contains a excellent assortment of the Nova Scotia, Royal and Atlantic Reader series from 1864 until about 1920. The building housed up to eight grades at one time in the same room, heated by coal in a single pot bellied stove in the center of the room. View the teacher's register for the 1888 winter session. Talk to the costumed guides who will help you catch a glimpse of life in a small economically challenged mining community from the persecutes of a grade school student. Take a lesson in the 3 R's, take home a certificate of attendance.

Stroll along the ocean front of Lingan Bay on over 2 miles of boardwalk attached to the museum grounds; ideal for bird watching, nature exploration, recreational walking, picnicking and swimming.
