Margaree Fish Hatchery

The Margaree Fish Hatchery & Visitor Centre was built in 1902 and was the first salmon hatchery in Nova Scotia. Today, the Aquatic Development Association of Margaree (ADAM) operates the hatchery with the purpose of raising Atlantic salmon and brook trout to stock the Margaree watershed. The hatchery offers guided tours of the facility. See the different stages of the salmon as they mature in the ponds. Ask about the brood stock collection day where they seine the river for the males and females who provide the eggs for the hatchery. The visitor centre has information on the life cycle of Atlantic salmon and the history of the hatchery. From the observation deck you can watch anglers casting their lines into the beautiful Margaree river. Enjoy a coffee, see the displays, or just rest a spell; away from the elements without missing the view.

ADAM sponsors a Community Market from mid-June to September every Saturday from 9:00am-noon. Local vendors offer produce, crafts and collectibles. The market is located on the Cabot Trail next to The Two Macs at the the Margaree Valley turn-off.
