| A glimpse at the ingenuity, artistry and dye-making talents of pioneer women will be offered at the Highland Village Museum/An Clachan Gàidhealach.
On Thursday, June 14, Highland Village will host a natural-dye workshop entitled Am Breacan Bòidheach Fasanta: Mary's Bonny Plaid.
Textile specialist Vicki Quimby will demonstrate and teach the skills of 19th-century Scottish pioneer women who created dyes from natural ingredients to colour homespun materials and yarns.
Participants will be given organic components used to produce a wide range of hues and invited to dip and dye their own skeins.
The Gaelic title for the activity is taken from a song praising a tartan cloth without peer, woven and hand-dyed by the lovely Mary.
Open to all ages, the natural-dye workshop will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the historic Centre Chimney House on the hill at Hector's Point. Cost is $10 per person. Light refreshments will be provided.
